A Notice on the EMQX 5.8 Open Source Version End-of-Life and Future Product Strategy

Dear EMQX users and community members,

Thank you for your continued trust and support. Thanks to the collective efforts of developers and enterprises worldwide, EMQX, an open-source project launched in 2013, has evolved into a leading MQTT and AI platform designed for real-time intelligence.

In accordance with our version maintenance policy, each major EMQX version is maintained for 18 months from its release date. EMQX 5.8 Open Source Version, released in August 2024, will reach its official end-of-life on February 28, 2026. This means after this date, EMQ will no longer provide maintenance updates for EMQX 5.8 Open Source, including bug fixes, security patches, or new feature development.

To provide a more stable, secure, and efficient service and align with current software industry trends, we have announced a new unified product strategy. After the open-source version reaches its end-of-life, we will fully merge the development of our open-source and enterprise versions, moving towards a single, integrated product.

If you are using the Apache 2.0 open-source version of EMQX, please be aware of the upcoming end-of-life date in February 2026 to avoid security risks from unpatched vulnerabilities. We strongly recommend that you migrate to the feature-rich, continuously updated unified version within the next six months.

You can choose to upgrade to one of the following product options:

  • EMQX Enterprise: Seamlessly integrates with more than 40 cloud services and enterprise systems. It provides a complete software package that supports on-premise private deployment, end-to-end data encryption, and fine-grained access control, giving you ultimate data control and customization flexibility.
  • EMQX Cloud: A fully managed, ready-to-use cloud service that requires no maintenance, helping you launch your business quickly and focus on core innovation.

To help our open-source users with the migration, EMQ is offering a "Worry-Free Migration" program for those transitioning to a new version.
